After completing a Fine Art degree specializing in oil painting and being a professional oil painter for several years I decided to begin teaching other people to paint.

One of the first things I was struck with was the fact that I painted from a well of knowledge, skill and experience that was all blended together.  And when I painted there were a lot of skills and pieces of knowledge I was applying without even thinking about it.  But, in order to teach oil painting, I would need to separate it all out into individual pieces of knowledge and individual skills that can be taught! 

As a tutor I have found that oil painting can be broken into it's essential parts and each part can be learned, through demonstrations, exercises and application in paintings, as long as it is done step-by-step and in a sensible sequence.
