The county wildlife site of 9 acres on Cock Hill ( Tower Hill )  At buzzard heights. Cock Hill  is a County wild life site recognised by the Somerset Wildlife Trust as being especilly important for wildlife, Plants,Birds, Insects, mammals.  The site comprises escarpment is (4.5 acres ) And to the east an adjoining 5.5 acres of woodland. The site is an area of calcareoys limestone .The escarpment is unimproved by farmyard slurry, chemicals or fertilisers.Hedgerows are left to flourish maintaining important corridors (rivers of life ) for wildlife such as hedgehogs and a food source of berries as winters larder for the birds and mammals.Many of these species rich grasslands have been destroyed since world war 2 as a result of over intensification, small enclosed fields made large, hedges and spinneys grubbed out for more acreage.

There are well over 50 recorded species of wildflowers growing on the escarpment.Some are notable or rare species and indicated with an aterisk. Here are just a few.  Woolly thistle * , Salad Burnet, yellow wort , St john's , Lady's Bedstraw , Hoary plantain , Pyramid orchid,* Agrimony, Wild clary *, Common mouse ear, Black Knapweed, Dwarf Thistle , Carline thistle , Wild carrot, Yarrow, Pyramidal Orchid* , Autumn Lady's Tresses * , Bee Orchid* , Common restharrow * , Wild Thyme * , Nit Grass* , Upright Brome * , Lesser Scabious, Pale Flax * , Cut Leafed Cranesbill, Cowslip, Primrose, Scotch Thistle, Common Centaury , Lesser Bird's Foot Trefoil.

You can also book the cottage out for self-catering, if you like. This is a luxury Well-equipped cottage, with 2 large en-suite bed rooms . Bed room 1 is a twin bed room, this room  has disabled facilities. Bed room 2 is a family room, with a Double bed & a Single bed. There is a Sofabed in the lounge, with a w.c & sink just off the lounge. This is popeye the goat, out for the day in the snow, haveing a good munch.

This is the B&B goat Popeye, the billy goat.He was featured on pet- rescue and now has a good home with us.we also have lots more livestock on the smallholding ,like hen's , A sheep, & Rabbit's. There is lots for children to do in somerset .There is the Animal Farm  Adventure park at Brean close to Burnham on sea .this is 30 minutes away by car.Or maybe Mineheads West somerset Railway with its steam trains. www.west-somerset-railway.co.uk This can take you to the Seaside and back.There is also crazy golf at burnham on sea a must for children and aduls alike. On the site we also have Bees, You can look at a WBC hive or at least part of one this is the classic hive that evokes memories of childhood.You will see the brood or queen chamber where the queen lays her eggs.The eggs hatch into workers (winged females who do all the pollen and nectar collecting)and the drones-flightless males that attend to the females every need including fertilisation of the eggs.She lays thousands of eggs every spring early summer.She is just an egg producing machine and can live up to 3 years at which time she is superseded by a new queen.

The cottage overlooks the battlefields of Aethandune where King Alfred after burning the cakes, defeated the Danish invaders.We are set within10 acres, comprising a county wildlife site with woodland nature trails and wild flower meadows. Wells Cathedral in Wells somerset, is just a short distance away from the B&B, you can get to it on the top road to us. A39 just past glastonbury into wells(.This is a must see Cathedral).Thay say if you shut your eye's , and imagine the faith of those who built it.That It will bring you luck.Then open your eye's and drink in the beauty of this great house of god and stop to give thanks.This Cathedral has very good Disabled Access,and most parts of the Cathedral are Accessible and there are toilet facilities, for disabled visitors.Also a hearing loop system is installed .Guide dogs are also permitted. At the Cathedral there is also a Cafe & Restaurant this is also  Disabled Friendly Reached by lift or Stairs

If you like to shop till you drop,then you can go to street .Street is only a short distance away from the b&b.It is Clarks village, and it is good for all  kinds of retail outlets, such as nike, and lots more.There is also glastonbury with it hippy shops, tea- rooms, restaurants,and cafes.Or maybe you like big towns like Taunton this is 9 miles away this is a county town with its nightlife and bars.This also has very good shopping.Theres also Burnham on sea, a old fashon sea side town with kiss- me- qick- hats, and donkeys on the beach.Or the larger Weston super mare, with large beaches, and varied shops and bars.

Over the last 5 years a pair of Barn Owls has nested in this box - for three successive years they raised 6 chicks which subsequently fledged and left the nest. The box was installed by Western Power and provided by the Hawk and Owl Trust paid for by ourselves.

The Barn Owls are very vocal particulalry in Autumn when they are staking out their territories and during the breeding season when the young hatch and are at their most demanding requiring maximum protection from their parents.

In the Summer, with the bedroom windows open, the sounds of the hunting owls can be heard from time to time.
